Hulme

We have only lived here for about three months and already its world away from safe old Salford. Initially we were pleased as it seemed a 'safe' area and it was bike friendly. Unfortunately we were wrong.

Alarms bell starts to ring when we witnessed some domestic abuse. We were used to noisey nights with having neighbours who had a karaoke machine they weren't afraid to use in Central Court. But this was a new type of noise, very loud bangs, screams, shouts- we were concerned. After a few more incidents of this genre we attempted to find out which flat it was coming from by sticking our heads out the window and seeing where the noise was coming from. We could not tell.

So one day I was taking the bins out (something the flat opposite might want to think about doing sometime) and once again I was witnessing the noise we had become accustomed to. I could clearly hear a guy screaming "YOURE NEVER GOING TO CHANGE"to some sort of female. Again- we were concerned. When the police paid us a surprise visit a few weeks ago, we thought it best to inform them of this and since then only heard them once. N thought they sounded Spanish, but I didn't. They definately werent Spanish.

Other interesting events in Hulme include, being chased under the subway by a tramp with a spanner. Rule One: Dont walk under the subway after dark.

We were again concerned when we heard a shooting. When mentioning this to the police they kindly informed us it was in fact not a shooting, and it was something 'not that bad' just someone being severely beaten up. There hasnt been a shooting here for four years (I think he meant months though.)

Then there was the bike incident. N had been leaving her bike in the hall of our flats (where was her common sense?) and then someone left a nasty note complaining about the bike, saying they wanted it moved. So N replied and said various reasons for leaving it there but all the same carried it up (struggled it up) to our flat. The next day N decided to leave it in the hall as there was no one there to help with the carrying. The following day N came down and saw that her gear wires has been torn from the bike and we suspect the tires popped. We decided this was attempted murder and are in the progress of making a plan to catch who we think did it. So far we have not taken any action but needless to say N has not left the bike there again.

On the up side, the man from the local shop gave us a free loaf of bread once.

An Introduction.

This blog is to report the mysterious goings on in the place we call home; Hulme. From the telephone boxes which are always interestingly in use, to the many, many people with a limp or a crutch, or even just the general clientele and the daily pervy comments which Nina and I have to endure, this blog is going to explore the characters and surroundings to get the D/L on just what the hell is going on.
